The Illinois basketball team defeated Purdue at home Saturday night, and the Illinois team won its first game since the 2002-03 season. It owns a 2-0 record against Purdue that includes its last two games and ends the Boilermakers' winning streak with three wins against the Philadelphias.
The indoor track and field team won five Big Ten championships in 1989, 1992, 1993, 1995 and 1996, and won the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship in 1992. In outdoor athletics, the team has a record of 5-2-1, with wins at the indoor and outdoor championships in the last two seasons.
The women's tennis team has competed in nine NCAA tournaments, with wins in the Big Ten tournaments in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. The men's gymnastics team was invited to 44 NCAA tournaments and won an NCAA championship with 10 teams, the highest number of teams in the Big Ten and the second largest in the program's history. Fighting Illinois baseball had four national championships, three Big East championships and three Conference championships. The battle for the men's basketball title includes a national title in 1990, a Big 10 championship in 1991 and a conference title in 1994-95.

The men's golf team is currently led by head coach Mike Small and plays its home games at the University of Illinois Golf Club in Urbana - Champaign, Ill. Founded in 1963, it has been playing in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) since its inception. Club sports include golf, athletics, volleyball, basketball, baseball, football, lacrosse, tennis and baseball.
