I'm a retired firefighter who is interested in music (jazz, R&B, world music), gardening, antiques, and issues of social justice, among other things. I won't apologize for being an intellectual, since I can't really help it. My intellectualism, though, is not of the ivory tower sort, since it's tempered by half a lifetime of manual labor. Think Eric Hoffer. Critical thinking and communication are of vital importance to me. I try to be of service to God and to my fellow man, to make and leave the world a better place than I found it. Hey, the basics are as follows: Massachusetts born and raised, I went to California after college, and now I'm in Illinois getting my law degree.

I'm a 37 year old guy who is still coming to terms with the fact that yeah, people DO grow up and shouldn't neccesarily be interested in the same things they are as they did when they were younger.. But screw it, I enjoy a lot of that stuff still- Bike riding, going out and partying with friends, going to see bands, playing games on the xbox, road trips, getting really trashed and having to go to work the next day.. You know, stuff those irresponsible kids do!

I'm a history major finishing up my last semester as an undergrad.

One of the first things you'll probably notice about me is that I really like to learn new things, and it often bounces back in conversations with me. I can be really passionate about what I study, especially history, but I don't think I obsess over it or anything. My favorite areas of study are: North America in the 17th and 18th century, because it's the time that links American History to European and World History. Because of this interest, and where I live (Illinois). I'm also interested in Church History.

I also like to study about theology. As far as religion, I'm a Protestant Christian (Churches of Christ), but I sometimes have my non-Protestant leanings. I'm interested in Eastern Orthodoxy, because it has a perspective on Christianity that in some areas are absent from both Protestant and Catholic views. They also show some areas where Protestants are still like the Catholics which they broke off from, even though some of my evangelical friends don't like me pointing that out too much. : ) Still, I think I would consider my self a conservative American Christian, and don't plan on doing anything like converting to something. I just like to see other peoples perspectives on stuff.

I use to be more interested in politics, but I'm becoming less interested in that as I become more focused on college. Still, I try to read up on candidates before elections and vote on every election day. I feel it's my civic duty. Politically I'd consider myself a moderate Republican. I lean to the right on social issues, to the center on economic issues, and to the left on some environmental issues.

When you first meet with me I might seem more serious than I really am. I tend to talk about those three topics if I'm nervous, but I'm far from just being about school.

I'm normally pretty interested in people's lives. I like getting to know friends more, and I like hanging out with a close group of friends every so often.

In terms of recreation, I'd consider myself a non-team-sport athlete. By that I mean that I don't mind working out, but I'd rather go for a hike or chop wood, than play soccer (aka lawyerball), or basketball. If I had to pick a team sport I like, it be baseball, but only if everyone is just playing for fun. That's mostly why I don't like team sports. I'm not antisocial or anything, it's just that Sportsmanship is dead. Everybody plays to win, and nobody plays just for fun anymore. I also like to canoe/kayak, although I'm not a very good swimmer, and just generally go camping.

I don't have a lot of hobbies anymore thanks to college, but I suppose one exception could be 3D photography. If I had more time I'd go back to volunteering as an Assistant Scoutmaster for my old Boy Scout troop. I've also volunteered as a language partner for ESL students before. (I also like learning about linguistics; although, I'm really bad at learning languages.)

As far as pets, I'm a cat person by far. I really don't care for dogs that much, but I can tolerate them after a while.

This is just going to be a little stream of consciousness writing about myself. I I was born in Indiana and I grew up in New Mexico. I've moved around a lot in my life. I like to travel and learn about different places. One day soon I hope to settle down in one place for an extended period of time. I like Mexico and the Spanish language. I'm interested in learning more about meditation. I have an Italian Greyhound who is just the sweetest little thing. I'm interested in education and social justice issues. When I was a kid I always wanted to be someplace else. I thought Indiana, and small towns, and farms and anything related to those things was boring and dumb. I thought New Mexico was too isolated and small. I wanted to be in an interesting and exciting place like New York City! Now that I'm an adult I'm really interested in seeing the positives and negatives of the places, Indiana and New Mexico, that were significant parts of my childhood and who I am today.

I'm a goofy, quirky gamer geek guy...thats actually socially adjusted, and can dress sharp, and knows how to handle myself out in the world away from the comforting glow of a computer monitor. I really am passionate about games though, and I've even made a career out of it. Games will be a legit form of art some day, mark my words.

I enjoy a lot of other crap too. I'm a theater geek and I've written, acted and directed several plays back in my roarin college years. I'm also a diet-car nerd. I don't get my hands greasy wrenching on the weekends, but I do enjoy taking my car out to autocross events and burning some rubber. I have a car crush on the Euro 2010 Ford Focus RS Mk II. If they ever bring that fucker stateside, I'm so getting one.

i've gotten a lot of crap from some folks for admiting i smoke pot here and it only bothers me because it's such a small part of who i am and what i do that it seems silly to make presumptions and judgements based on that. seriouslly, i don't -not like- people who watch t.v even though it obviouslly makes you lazy and causes lower intellegence. the real losers are those who judge......

I like smart, funny people who can make me laugh. To those too simple to comprehend that, its the opposite of gormless, simple-minded people who make me wince at their stupidity.

Hello! I'm the kind of person who is extremely shy around anybody I don't know but friendly and outgoing towards those I do, and the former is why I'm here online a lot and not hanging out at bars and stuff where most people there are just looking for temporary pleasure. I'm much easier to get to know through written words because I'm more able to be myself and am not so easily shaken by pretty eyes or a voice, but once you know me, you will find me to be one of the more interesting people you have ever met in your life. I also get criticized for acting a lot older than I actually am, probably because I have older tastes and an older mindset, which is why I'm looking for something that will last forever and not just a fling like the kids my age usually look for.

Hmm. I like to have fun, but who doesn't? I enjoy the outdoors and I love to hike. I love to travel and I have too many pets (mostly reptiles). I am a nerd. I like video games and ridiculous things on the internet, but I seem to have less and less time for them recently, which is okay. Despite my geekiness, I'm pretty well adjusted, I think.

I'm a computer geek. Well, I'm a plain geek too. I tend to be shy, especially around new people. Though, people who know me well don't think I'm shy -- They'd probably say I'm goofy.

I live in central Illinois, though I'm from Minnesota. I miss the lakes, the hills, and the trees, but after living here for 6 years I've gotten used to it. I went to the University of Illinois for a degree in computer science, until I ran out of money and was forced to get a real world job a little sooner than I had planned. Now I make video games, which isn't really a terrible trade-off, in the end.

Although everyone is truly unique, it's a safe bet that conventionally I'm probably unlike anyone you've ever met before. Travel is in my nature and in many ways I'm a typical Sagittarius fire horse. A knowledgeable one once described me as the 'bohemian son' and 'like a leaf in the wind', but I am at the stage now where I would like to establish some roots.

Life is a mystery, but it is experiential; I seek to experience, but also to share... one without the other seems at times only hollow.

I've recently moved to Champaign from Far Far Away. I know practically nobody here outside of work and so I primarily want to make friends to hang out with. Computers make a big big part of my life and job and I love 'em to death (amused to see C++ listed in the language section... huzzaaahhh OC). I loveeeee playing soccer and squash and a lot of other sports. As a naive young teen I'd promised myself that my first vehicle would be a superbike, and looks like I'll come good on my promise. Yippppeeeee..... I like to bicycle as well and will start once the snow clears . I always bike without a helmet (because I'm crazy and it reminds me its good to take risks every so often). I also love hiking and the outdoors. I love music and have this terrible habit of listening to the same song a million times over and over until I'm sick of it. Dancing is always a welcome change to my otherwise monotonous existence and would love to do that more often. I love animals and most of all dogs and cows. Reptiles freak me out big time though.... I'm guilty of being a vegetarian though I wouldn't stay hungry if there's only meat around. When I have the time and energy I like to cook the few dishes that I cook well. Well, not too much to me, I've been known to be a really nice guy, I constantly go out of my way to help out a friend, and don't really ask for anything in return. I'm a bit shy at first when people get to know me, although, it's not usually being shy, just more indifference than anything else. Once you get to know me though, you'll find that I can be pretty deep. I'm currently going to grad school for computer science, however it doesn't mean that all I like to do is sit in front of a computer screen, I'm a division 4 tournament paintball player, and I work out often. Aside from that, I like cooking, reading, working with my hands, listening to music, playing guitar, watching movies, or doing something fun outside (I'm sure I missed a few things, but that seems to be good for now). Well, where do I start? It's hard to describe myself because I feel that everyone is always changing, so what applies to you one day may change the next due to whatever circumstances may occur in your life. Currently I'm pretty quiet around new people, but once I start getting comfortable I can act a fool at a moments notice.

I am someone who loves whole-heartedly, often at the risk of getting hurt. I find this to be a great strength and a great weakness on my part, but it's not something I would change. I'm looking for someone who, like me, has an open heart and a level head.

Here's a random list of things about myself. I generally find that I am comfortable in any environment. I love people and the behaviorist in me likes to figure out what makes people tick so I find that I have extremely eccentric tastes in friends, past times, etc. I curse like a sailor. I play Underwater Hockey at the University of Illinois. Do a google search for it. You'll see me, and bunch of people I know.

I read a lot, mainly news sites, the Internet, magazines, current events stuff. I work in the occasional book, or weird arty graphic novel I try to go to go to the movies on Bring your own Bucket Night. I have set of Frisbee golf discs I use when the weather's nice and the mood hits me.... I guess that makes me an "introvert" type of person. Sue me; I usually think things out first.

One of the most difficult things to me is describing myself. I would love to be conceited and claim these brilliant merits, but I tend to be self-depricating. I know my good qualities and I know my flaws. I know I am intelligent, and that I have a good sense of humor. I am polite. I have a outgoing personality. I am caring and understanding, almost to a fault.
I am also a cynic, at times. I speak my mind, which can get me into trouble. I am a realist, and yet a dreamer all the same. I can differentiate between the truth and how I wish something to be, but that still doesn't stop me from hoping.
One of the most important goals of my life is to be happy. I know that many people say that happiness is the journey, not the goal, but I think differently. I believe that if I can die without any regrets and satisfied, then I have led a successful life. That is what I aim to do.
My family and friends are very important to me, although my family isn't very close. My friends are more of a family to me than some of my siblings. Despite that, I would still do anything for them.
I love to write. I am pretty good, if I do say so myself. I have many poems and a couple of stories floating around on the internet.
Time scares me to death. I am always afraid I will not have enough time to learn all I want, and do all that needs to be done. Because of that, I have high anxiety. I have many irrational fears besides that one, and although I know they are irrational I still fear them.

I am looking for interesting people to spend my time with. Who I am is difficult to pin down, as cliche as that sounds. I have a variety of hobbies I enjoy, mainly games and gaming (not just video games). I'm a geek/nerd and loving it. Interesting is a nice way of putting my personality, eclectic/weird would be more accurate. The main things I do running Tabletop RPG's (I love storytelling), and work. At some point I want to be able to play the violin, its been a growing passion of mine.

I have no problem being different and have no compunctions about being who I am. I try to be polite and respectful in polite company, but my friends know me as someone who has no problem doing anything as long as it interests me, as well as being blunt.

I value hard work, honesty, and self improvement. I'm also not a sports person. The sports that I tend to enjoy are more individual such as swimming, rollerblading, and shooting (yes, guns). I've recently started to try working out at home a little and look forward to taking up rollerblading in the spring. I like spending my time relaxing as my job has me doing a lot of driving (on-site computer repair), but I also run a tabletop RPG as a creative outlet. I still play video games from time to time, but find I don't have as much time for them as I used to, which is a bit depressing.

I lived in South Africa for a year. Have tried skydiving, bungee jumping (709ft), used to have a couple of radio shows at community radio (world music and a kids show). I don't know what I am thinking trying this internet "dating" thing, but I allowed a friend to talk me into it. I'm not sure what I should write here, but here goes..

I'm not into going to parties or clubs. I spend a lot of time with family and friends, and watching movies. I have been putting a lot time and effort into my education and career, and now I'm attempting to shift my focus and work on becoming a better person. Part of improving me has included concentrating on health and wellness. For the past past three months I have been extremely serious about taking care of me and improving my health and wellness in areas such as nutrition, physical fitness, work/personal life balance, stress management, finances management, etc.

I believe that men should make the first move, but I'm not opposed to making the first move. I like "manly" men who are not afraid of getting their hands dirty. Men who enjoy watching sports and grilling. I am impressed when I see a man ask a woman if she needs assistance with heavy boxes, or if a man holds the door for a woman. I would describe myself as a generally quiet person, until you actually get to know me. After that, I would probably be described as an outgoing, funny person. I enjoy hanging out with friends, though I also like being able to enjoy a relaxing night at my apartment. With the work that I have to do being a student, it gets hard to find the time to do either as much as I'd like.

I am currently a senior in computer science here at U of I and looking to graduate here in the spring. Although I've had a good experience with everything here, I haven't been able to meet as many people outside the major as I would like to.

I'm a California native currently living out here in Illinois. It was a tough decision to leave my family and best friends but at least I have a decent job so I can't complain too much I guess. I do miss California dearly though and visit whenever I get the chance.

I'm a pretty easy going guy that gets along well with most people but only really likes a select few. I value witty remarks and creative humor. Due to my move, I currently don't know many people around this area and want to change that. I like to go out from time to time, doesn't really mater what as I can have fun doing pretty much anything, and like trying new things.

I like to go out sometimes to chill at a bar but the club scene isn't really my thing. I have a DS and xbox360 to keep me company when I stay in as well as a computer and the internet.

Very open minded, always willing to try something at least once. I love change, I hate getting stuck in a rut. Don't get me wrong I am a firm believer in routines and love being able to count on some things never changing. I'm just saying I like to mix it up a bit. What else, I'd say I'm a pretty optimistic person. I won't settle for anything less than being happy, successful,rich, and enjoying life to the fullest. Ok, so the being rich isn't a must but it sure would be nice. Can't say that I have a favorite movie, I like'm all. But I would have to say I would pick watching a movie over a t.v. show, just about,any day. The only exceptions to that would be scrubs, that 70's show, Dexter, and true blood. I am a very physically active person, and probly the most uncoordinated athletic person you'll ever meet. Yeah, I'm about as graceful as an elephant. Ahh, music. I love music. I can't play any but I love listening to it. My fave would be rock, but I definitely enjoy almost all other music as well, with the exception of country. I can deal with some country, just not a huge fan. So that's me in a nutshell.

Hi there! The name is Matt, and although I don't know you (yet), I'm sure that I'm absolutely delighted to meet you. I'm not really certain what to say here, so I'll just forge ahead and write whatever comes to mind.

To begin: I'm an unapologetic geek, an occasionally idealistic romantic, a dedicated bibliophile, and a joker, although not *the* Joker. I'm fascinated by other cultures and other places, but I'm also interested in my own society and the places I've lived. I've always been a bit shy, but recently I've been attempting to be more outgoing and day-seizing and whatnot. I am more than capable of being both very serious and an enormous goofball, but mostly prefer the lighthearted, jolly sort of existence.

Academics frequently immerses me in the past, but I spend most of my life trying to enjoy the present. I strive to be happy and to make others happy; I live for little moments of joy; I love to laugh and sing and dance, although I'm not particularly great at that last one. But it's the thought that counts, right?

I'm also rather fond of dogs.

where to begin, yes? i grew up outside of philly, went to undergrad in boston, and now here i am in the midwest. i'm east-coast to the core, but champaign is growing on me quite a bit... i'm out here for grad school, and i've got about 4 more after this one. i <3 all of my psych friends, but it's really easy to never meet anyone outside of your department when you're a grad student, and that explains why i'm here. yes, yes, i do work a lot, but i also spend a good amount of time with friends... my fav activities are (1) just hanging out, (2) going out dancing, (3) drinking wine, and (4) randomness, but i'm not tied to that order. i really enjoy unique, fresh, and passionate people, so if you've got some of that, let's talk.

I love being absurd, hopefully you gathered that from by "describe yourself" section. I also feel I don't need to be bound by the laws of grammar (can also be noted from my "describe yourself" section). I like to tell jokes, bad ones, corny ones, awkward ones. There might be a good one in there once and a while. I prefer to use my laptop in bed (not like that...). I like water color paintings of mountains and I should try to make one myself but I haven't. Sarcasm is a fantastic gift and I pity those that can't use it.

My name is Jeff and I've just moved to Champaign from Bloomington to start a new job. Right now I know no one in town and could use some new friends. I'm a voracious reader and movie-lover who can watch or read just about anything, though there are times when I'm in a discriminating mood and will insist on absorbing something of cultural value, like a Godard film or a short story collection by Robert Bloch (ahem). I live on a steady diet of Art and Trash, which is in no way related to my work (I write tests for a living; please, don't hold it against me).

Im just a young women who likes to have fun, I like to try things new, no drugs or anything like that just things new. I am fun, my friends think that im to nice but thats just me. I really dont like to tell about myself you get to know and you'll find out. Im not really interested in a serious relationship right now. Just looking for a person I can talk to and become friends. Self summary... let's see... Well, I'd have to say that I'm your typical nice guy. I try to be respectful of everyone around me, not too much though because I don't want to be a pushover. When it comes to women I try to be the best gentleman I can be, this could be anything from just holding the door to helping out with work or something of that nature. I tend to be quite shy at first, but once you get to know me I open up a bit more. Anything else you wanna know just ask.

I am a doctoral student in literature living in the middle of a cornfield. Itâ??s not that I donâ??t like the cornfield, itâ??s just that, well, Iâ??d like somebody to share the corn with. Do you like corn? Well, too bad, because itâ??s feed corn. But we can look at it together. The sky is pretty clear at night and the gentle fronds of the ears can whisk us away into a fantasy land of love and bliss. You up for it?

I hang out with my friends a lot who are pretty much my family. We go line dancing at Bradleys on Wednesday and Friday nights.

I'm still in Afghanistan working with the locals on different things. I'm still scheduled to be home before Thanksgiving of this year. I'm hoping I'll be home around November 15th if all goes well.

I was born in city of Mumbai, India where they shot slumdog millionaire. I've seen a lot of tragic things in my life, so I grew up fast and Im mature for my age.

First off, I am not really looking for the sudden relationship in a box. Friends first is really the best option, take the time, get to know each other. Trust and communication are not things that come quickly and shouldn't be rushed and that is what I am looking for. I guess in short, I am looking for friends first and a relationship second if it develops into that, but I am not looking into rushing into anything quickly.

Overall I am a rather relaxed person. I'm comfortable either out on my own if I have something to do, or in a group. I love to get outside when it is warm out and go for a run or just throw a Frisbee or kick a ball around. Actually especially in the spring and summer I spend a lot of time outside jogging. If I'm not doing that a lot of times I can be found either buried in my current book or around a pool table. No matter what I'm doing I look for the fun in it. I ride my motorcycle for the pure joy, and when people ask why I did something some different way the most common answer is "It was funnier this way". I'm big on laughing and enjoying myself. Nights will often find me with friends or at work since I work 3rd shift.

I have a lot of different facets to my personality that are really hard to type out in this. Some of the different ones in short are: I enjoy being outside when it is warm. A thunderstorm is just a giant excuse to play in the rain. Music makes the soul sing when it is just right. There is a natural rhythm to this world and if you figure it out all you have to do is ride along. A good book sucks you in.
